Every now and again we get Facebook posts with comments like “You can get cheaper on eBay / Amazon with 3x the Power and double the battery size!”
We all want a deal & I DO TOO….but sometimes, something is too good to be true. If we can reduce pricing without losing quality, I want to know about it…..I’m curious, passionate about what we do and we want to provide products that we are proud of so we’re always so I dig a little deeper and looking to improve in anything we can. We’re learning something new every day.
So what did we do? We bought one to take a look at it
It didn’t look much better than our 300 lumens Head Torch & ours had a much larger spread of light (much much wider!) which is perfect for Running at night.
It quickly became apparent that the Canwelum Head Torch was NOT 1000 Lumens as stated & certainly didn’t illuminate to 1600ft either (as per their Amazon listing!)
But here’s the thing, the circuit board controls how much power is fed to the CREE LED so 700 Lumens is the maximum they could provide (and they are providing nowhere near 700 Lumens either!)
Canwelum Head Torch uses 2 x Ultrafire 18650 4000 mAh Batteries = 8000mAh in Total
This compares to our 1 x Battery 2000 mAh 18650 Battery we use for our Head Torch!!
So first thing we did was do a YouTube search and found this video:
mmmmm….
So we bought a Battery Charger Tester to dig even deeper and test the Head Torch we got from Amazon UK
Next test…Battery Working Time
So the next test we decided to do was test the Battery working time. We charged all the Head Torches up, switched them on and left them running on full power.
OUCH!!!
The Canwelum Head Torch alluminium case reached a temperature of just over 51 degrees centigrade!!
But how did that happen?
We are only using 1 x 2000 mAh Battery
vs
2 x 4000mAh = 8000 mAh of power of the Canwelum Head Torch
