So we’ve been looking at Bike Locks for some time now and we’ve learnt a little bit about them.
Are there standards for Bike Locks?
Yes – “Sold Secure Certification Rating” – Sold Secure offer 3 x Tiers of Certification:
Bronze - offers defence against the opportunist thief
Silver - compromise between security and cost
Gold - Gold rated locking devices offer the highest level of security
If the Bike Lock is not Sold Secure Rated – is it Safe to use?
The answer is, you don’t know.
It could be the best bike lock on the market but if it hasn’t been tested, then you do not know to what standard the bike lock is. Many Bike Insurance companies (and you need to check your home insurance too!) require that your Bike lock is a Sold Secure rated lock to secure your bicycle.
Bronze Rated - for Bikes with a Value of up to £250
Silver Rated - for Bikes with a Value of up to £1,500
Gold Rated - for Bikes with a Value over £1,500
