€2,000 Fine for Wearing Ski Boots?!

The Mayor Of Ischgl Ski Resort in Austria has decided to ban skiers from walking around the resort in their ski boots after 8pm and anyone caught doing so will face a fine of up to €2,000 (that’s approximately £1,711)!!

We just don’t get it…

Ischgl created an IBIZA in the Alps….they made themselves PARTY CENTRAL (they even have lap dancing bars there!!!)

After attracting the type of Skier | Snowboarder they want, they now want to Fine them if they are in their Ski Boots after 8pm?!

Here’s a German Video showing just how much they enjoy to party! (it is in German BUT I think you’ll get the idea!)

Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve been Snowboarding there for a day, loved the place and it is a great Ski Area (but alas didn’t Apres Ski)

It's high up so always guarantees good snow

They groom the Piste run in the summer so they don't need lots of snowcover if the Alps have a late or bad ski season

It's got a large Ski Area

Here’s what the Mayor of Ischgl Ski Resort said:

Dear Guests of Ischgl

Welcome to Paznaun in Tyrol! We are very pleased that you have again chosen Tyrol’s leading lifestyle metropolis for your winter time out and are convinced that you will be very impressed by the cross border snow activities on offer in one of the largest continuous ski resorts in the alps as well as the high calibre programme of entertainment

We are particularly concerned with ensuring you enjoy a high quality stay around the clock and so Ischgl is focussing on new high quality après ski fun this winter season so as to reduce the risk of injury for individuals and keep general noise pollution at night to a minimum

As such we would like to inform you that from 20 November to 5 May, walking in hard soled footwear [e g ski boots or similar plastic soles and carrying skis, ski sticks or snowboards will be prohibited on all of the routes and squares in the centre of Ischgl between the evening and night time hours of 20 00 and 06 00

This local police regulation is intended to increase the quality of your stay. Any breaches of this regulation will result in a fine of up to EUR 2000

In the past passers by carrying ski equipment during the evening or night time have presented a danger to themselves or others e g by falling or carrying skis on their shoulders. Walking with hard soled footwear also creates a noise on the tarmac and cobbled streets and this can disturb peoples sleep. Exceptions are permitted if a suitable and justifiable reason can be provided and will be assess on an individual basis by the relevant authorities. In future, all guests with ski equipment will be able to take the shortest route when leaving a restaurant etc to get to a waiting taxi or ski but [for the exact working see the local police regulation].

We are sure that these measures will enable you to enjoy an even more high quality break. We wish you a care free and unforgettable time in our holiday paradise.

It’s signed by the Mayor, the head of the tourist office and the boss of the lift company.

I enjoy a quiet night, a good meal and bed early these days (I’m getting too old to Partaaay!)

What do you think?
